PHYLUM: OOZE

CLASS: COGNIZANT

There are two classes of oozes: those with minds and those without. The cognizant class, as its name would imply, is the grouping of those which have mental energies that are active and functioning. This does not always imply sentience, but it does mean that a part of the ooze’s body contains an organ or organelle network which actively uses the shell of the lifesong that stores those phrenic energies. Thus, instead of reacting to stimuli as a function of instinct, these slimes may be able to sense invaders in advance. Some might even have the ability to communicate.
