 Kingdom: Mutant
Beings that are biophages are those who eat and survive by the consumption of other living and materials or various nutrients that reside in the earth or native terrain.
Mutants are monsters in the strictest sense frightening creatures that are not ordinary, not truly natural, and almost never benign. Some are the results of magical experimentation gone awry, and others are the product-of terrible curses. Unless stated otherwise, mutant beasts eat, sleep, and breathe.

Brain Tick

Brain ticks usually attack solo or possibly with one or two others. Despite their few numbers, they can be dangerous to nearly any power ranking of a party. They are small, chitinous and look like a foul-legged spider around a foot in diameter. However, they are incredibly nimble and tough apart from their smallish appearance. The first action of a brain tick is to select its target randomly and jump on its face. Success on a grapple attack against the target indicates the brain tick has secured itself on the target’s head. Once doing this, several things happen. First, any physical damage inflicted to the brain tick also harms its victim. Second, for every combat round it remains connected, it sucks 2 Mind points from the target. When the victim reaches 0, the target remains conscious but now under the mind-control of the brain tick, who will use the target to attack others. While, it cannot compel the controlled to cast sorcery or use divine abilities, the brain tick will have the knowledge of the victim’s inventory and skills and will make strategic use of that information. Ultimately, if the brain tick defeats all that oppose it, the monster will spend the number of rounds equal eating its way to the prey’s brain and devour it; the duration is based on 1 body point per round until the victim reaches true death. After that, it may choose to eat the brains of the other fallen victims if it still remains hungry and their fallen bodies are still fresh.
There are many ways to defeat these formidable foes, but the most effective with minimal harm to the controlled partner is to use attacks that weaken the Spirit component. Such attacks inflict damage to both the brain tick as well as its prey, but one oddity is that skills like discipline and heart of stone are not active when under the influence of a brain tick. If the brain tick reaches zero in Spirit, it will release its prey. However, if the victim reaches zero first, there is the risk he or she may run away in fear with the thing attached to its face. Then again, if slept, the brain tick will release to find another victim. Finally, the brain tick is intelligent enough to know when the opponents have proper defenses against it and will simply flee.
