 Over-Category: Biophage
 Kingdom: Animal
Beings that are biophages are those who eat and survive by the consumption of other living and materials or various nutrients that reside in the earth or native terrain.
Animals are nonhumanoid creatures that are a natural part of the fantasy ecology. Some of them have magical powers, but most are unintelligent and lack any society or language. Animals include all varieties of ordinary animals with several subtypes: amphibian, arthropod, avian, mammal, primeval, and reptile. Many animals have zero scores for mind or spirit. Unless otherwise noted, animals of zero quality will automatically fail any preservation save.
The notable group exception is primeval animals. Perhaps one of the most powerful defenses of the dire beasts is their resistance to Mind and Spirit attacks. Any preservation save of involving sleep, charm or fear will automatically save for all members of the primeval sub group.

Moth-hopper (Arthropod)

In certain areas, there have developed some atypical ecological niches, such as the grassland plains of the Occiduus continent, where the skies are a zone of many flier creatures. Because of that, some odd diversity of fliers has developed there. One of those peculiar species is the Moth-hopper. While not an exciting encounter, these pests are quite aesthetic for those who have never seen them. They are voracious insects, eating much of the vegetation of the tropics, but also the swarms cross pollinate several plants. However, as a hazard, these gorgeous vermin carry several diseases which can be transferred to those foreign to the area. As an entry in the bestiary, the monster is represented as a swarm of these insects. A group of a "swarm" takes up a huge volume and obscures the vision of those within the space to inflict a -2 upon all the victims to hit attacks. Also, as an encounter, the swarm(s) will likely eat the travelers food; one swarm can eat one day's worth of food in one minute (6 turns). Finally, the throng of insects are susceptible to fire, but anyone enveloped by the swarm will suffer half the base of the original damage.
