 Kingdom: Mutant
Beings that are biophages are those who eat and survive by the consumption of other living and materials or various nutrients that reside in the earth or native terrain.
Mutants are monsters in the strictest sense frightening creatures that are not ordinary, not truly natural, and almost never benign. Some are the results of magical experimentation gone awry, and others are the product-of terrible curses. Unless stated otherwise, mutant beasts eat, sleep, and breathe.

Cockatrice

The cockatrice has sometimes been confused for the basilisk by those who tell tales about each creature; however, to see each, one would never confused them. That is of course if the story teller survived the petrifying gaze. Moreover, the basilisk's petrification weapon is a poisonous bite that slows a victim until it turns to stone; however, the cockatrice is more like a medusan gorgon, using a gaze weapon to turn its victims to stone.

When a creature that is capable of seeing the face of the cockatrice starts its turn within 30 feet, then the mutant creature is permitted an immediate reaction to begin the petrification effect, assuming the monster is not incapacitated and is able to see the victim; thus, invisible victims are unlikely to be affected; however, that is not foolproof as the cockatrice has many types of vision (darkvision and spirit sense). It is important to note the effect is outward from the monster seeing the eyes of the victim rather than dependent on the victim seeing it directly; therefore, averting one's gaze may not work but wearing a physical barrier like a blindfold would. When this occurs, the victim must roll a Resilience save (DC:13) to avoid the effect. If failing, the the target begins to turn to stone and under the restrained restriction. At the end of the target's next turn, it must repeat the save. On a success, the victim is able to break free from the forming stony skin and the effect ends. On a failure, the target is petrified.
Other than that deadly menace the cockatrice is a small, funny looking bird-lizard creature that is not much of a threat. It primarily looks like a hideous hybrid of a lizard body, chicken head, and the wings of a bat. These omnivores have a diet that consists of fungi, grasses, nuts, and small animals such as insects, mice, and frogs — things they can swallow whole. They would be no threat to anything else if not for their fierce and frenzied response to even a hint of danger. A cockatrice flies into the face of any threat, squawking and madly beating its wings as its head darts out to peck.
